Does anyone remember, or want to remember, one of his most famous statements ?

" Homosexuality is the disease, and AIDS is the cure. "

I lived in NC during the later stages of his political stronghold. What shocked me even more than his behavior were his closet supporters. Helms would trail his opponents in the polls by up to 18%, then be re-elected handily. It has always scared me how many citizens holding similar views as Helms walk amongst us saying the correct things, but thinking another.
