Who will light Rio's Olympic Cauldron in 2016?

A place for the discussion of all things not closely related to the sport and its competitive side. (as always, locked for the duration of major international championship)

:? Have you heard the things Lewis has said about Bolt? Did you hear Jordan's Hall of Fame inductance speech?

Cruz or Schmidt?

Joaquim Cruz should be one of the favourites to light the Olympic flame in 2016. According to his wikipedia article he "was a torchbearer and lit the flame cauldron at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro". Will this go against him?

Another alternative would be their Basketball legend Oscar Schmidt (only man to score 1000+ pts at Olympics - he played in 5)... never won a medal but is a legend (and with cancer battle in full swing apparently)

I had not heard of Schmidt. He would be a far better choice than Pele. From his wikipedia article:
Olympic Basketball's all-time leader in points scored:
1,094 career points scored - 28.8 points per game
3x Olympic Basketball Top Scorer:
    Seoul 1988 - 41.9 points per game
    Barcelona 1992 - 24.8 points per game
    Atlanta 1996 - 27.4 points per game
Most points scored in a game at the Olympics - 55 against Spain, 24 September 1988 (lost 118-110)
