My So Called Life
This show was all sorts of wonderful, but a bit difficult to watch. It tended to rub raw nerves which became a bit uncomfortable.

I didn't watch it, but Freaks and Geeks is usually included in such lists.

Firefly- 15 episodes and a movie was not enough.

I can think of two......

Commander-in-Chief, from 2005-06, starring Geena Davis as our first woman President.
High Incident, an intense police drama ,from 1996-97, starring David Keith and Anjanue Ellis.

Loved both shows.
I own the DVD's for C-i-C.....and have watched all 18 episodes several times!!

Give that man a cigar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[Heads up: the DVD/Blue-ray has a few unaired episodes!]

"Firefly" possibly has the most loyal fans of any short-run show. I was at Best Buy buying another copy of the Blue-ray for a friend's birthday when a young woman employee noticed my purchase. Long story short, we spent nearly 15 minutes talking about the series and movie (it was slow evening, almost closing, so she didn't get in trouble).

Yes, watch the Firefly collection, then the movie. Utterly brilliant Joss Whedon at his best.

Don't mean to hijack a thread by going on about this show, but one thing that still blows my mind was how Whedon conceived his show's universe, foundation-wise. Two things:

1. The mixture of spacecraft and old west culture. [Makes perfect sense: you fly to a distant, undeveloped world in a rocketship, but once you're there, you have to ride around on horses and in buckboards.]

2. The hybrid cultural mix from "Old Earth" wherein the two major remaining 2013 superpowers, China and the USA, combine to become the major social influences of the future.

As gh said, pure genius.

[Plus one of the most beautiful women in the world--any world--in the cast: Morena Baccarin.]

I certainly endorse both Firefly and Frank's Place in this category.
I'd go another step and say that Frank's Place was one of the top 10 network TV shows ever... only problem was that apparently only two households in America watched Frank's Place... mine andn KDFine's.

Worst current TV show to be renewed: Revolution. A show in which all electromagnetic laws of the universe are suspended indefinitely to provide a scenario for every used-up, dumb-ass, tedious action/adventure/melodramatic cliche. Don't ask how I know these things!

My 14 year old grandson egged me to watch this. It's easy to see why he liked it....he's 14. I found it amusing
but it didn't grab me much.

Pure genius to some head scratching to me. You have space technology lasers and you use bullets? Mixing "Star Wars" with "Gunsmoke" didn't appeal to me. But you are right about Baccarin, now in "Homeland."

There was "Kidnapped" with Timothy Hutton, Jeremy Sisto, which was pulled halfway through the season but the full show can be seen (Netflix?). Solid crime show with nicely complicated characters.

Jack and Jill. Where the man was Jill and the woman was Jack. Never watched it but only remember it from the ads.

The original version of The Prisioner. Of course, it was only supposed to last one season.

FRANK'S PLACE !!!

If I had to pick a favorite TV show, Frank's Place would be it. I just wish it was on DVD.

My fav show that didn't make a 2nd season was "Strange Luck" on FOX

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112182/

Fox had a run of shows I watched that didn't make 2nd season until "Prison Break"

Brimstone, which I don't think even lasted a full season. Starring Peter Horton as a detective sent back from Hell to return escapees. John Glover as the greatest devil ever.

I keep on forgetting the title "Brimstone" meaning that I clearly remember the show but always forget the title. It was a good show.
The frustration I had about "Franks' Place" is that we were told at the time that it was on a short hiatus and would be back, and of course I'm still waiting. Maybe they'll re-run it someday on PBS, the way "The Prisoner" was.

in reading an appreciation of David Frost today I was surprised to learn that TW3 (That Was The Week That Was) only lasted a single year. Time took longer when you were a kid!

I recently transferred my my LP of Tom Lehrer's "That Was the Week That Was" to CD. Some songs are a bit dated but its still a joy to listen to.

Space: Above and Beyond. 8-) Dirty shame they couldn't at least give us year one of the full-scale war between Earth and the Chigs, aside from the skirmishes leading up to the death of the Chig ambassador and most of the Wild Cards, which would turn those skirmishes into all-out war.

Unless it's Star Trek or Babylon 5, the TV fat cats will thumb their noses at military/space-oriented sci-fi. It makes me wonder what chance Mercy Point would have had, if they had allowed their characters more time to fully develop and given the show more than 8 episodes.

The Stargate properties were fairly heavily military oriented scifi.

Odd quirky take-off of a BBC series- good music. A lot of establishing scenes were shot in my Astoria neighborhood. A lot of blocks have not felt the hand of development since the 1950's. Some pretty tight height airspace and character of the block real estate rules make a good portion of the area $ unattractive to major developers.
