At each aid station, there were no paper cups. You could use your water bottle or the cup they had provided each runner (this was all made clear in advance). At the end of the race I think people had to bring their own utensils and bowls for the food, or something like that. The race had over 600 entrants and at the end of the day they only had 4 bags of garbage.

Perhaps the events at Boston will inspire more races to be more green.

I don't see the connection at all.

78 years old and runs a 4 hr marathon. Wow.

If you're 78 and you run a 4-hour marathon, you're a bad m*****f*****. The scary thing is that he's almost an hour off the age-group world record, which is held by Ed Whitlock, who was actually 80 when he ran 3:15:54.

Whitlock also ran about 2:54(56?) and 37:18 10K at age 73 or 74. 6:35 and 6:00/mile pace at age 74 boggles the mind (not that 7:27 pace for a marathon at 80 isn't equally notable].

They may have some pictures of the guy.

A suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings has been identified by authorities after analyzing video footage, CNN's John King reported on air Wednesday.

Must see this -

As a Boston-native, its all so true.

I will be in Boston next Patriots Day to bring home the runners - my sister and I have vowed to both go up there together next April. We'll be damned if we let those bastards think they can stop Bostonians.

But there was something about Boston Billy

Growing up in Framingham, I well remember in 1963 going downtown to watch the runners go thru on Patriots Day and the two leaders were Bikila and Mamo Wolde - they didn't win - that went to Aurele Vandendriessche of Belgium. I think Bikila finished 4th

But in this day and age of 1000's of people having cellphone cameras and the like...it's becoming almost impossible for a criminal to escape detection......especially when it's broad daylight, and there's 1000's of people around!!

Not much new info other than this brief blurb:
BOSTON (AP) — A suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was taken into custody Wednesday.... The suspect was expected at a Boston courthouse under heavy security, the official said.

A news briefing was scheduled later Wednesday.

CNN now

(CNN) -- [Breaking news update at 2:44 p.m. Wednesday]

Investigators in Washington and Boston denied Wednesday that an arrest had been made in the bombing of the Boston Marathon. They had earlier said there was "substantial" progress in the case.

[Breaking news update at 2:36 p.m. Wednesday]

There is conflicting information as to whether someone has been arrested in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings. A federal law enforcement source told CNN's Fran Townsend that someone was arrested. But later, two senior administration officials and another federal official told Townsend that there had been a misunderstanding among officials and that no one has been arrested.

People were not using cell phone cameras to photograph the guy because he was not an 'item' of interest and he did not set it off and run. Conversely, the camera at L&T is on continually.

Apparently one clue on one guy (the same?) is that he was also seen reacting differently to the bomb -- everyone else was surprised, so that make someone stick out.

The reports say that they might be brothers from Russian Caucasus. If they turn out to be Chechnyan terrorists, I would be totally clueless, never having expected anything of this sort. While Chechnyan terrorists are Muslims, their cause is a lot more nationalistic than religious.

Assuming for a moment that these two turn out to be the murderers in this/these incidents, we'll probably never have any sort of explanation of their motives that would make a whole lot of sense. What I have read on NY Times, Boston Globe and CNN Web sites today says they moved to the USA several years ago, perhaps as early as 2002 (one source states that year, others say "more than five years"). One of these guys is 19, the other 26. If they have been here since 2002, that means the younger was ~8-9 yo when they arrived, the other ~15-16yo. Both HS graduates, both involved in their schools, both in sports; the younger reported as being a college student this year; the older had been one in the past few years. Granting all the difficulties of making one's way into a new culture that immigrants face, much of what is being reported in the news about them -- assuming it turns out to be accurate -- is pretty typical immigrant stories. Actually, better that some, if they had succeeded in graduating HS and going on to college. So that leaves me where I always am at such moments -- what prompts a person or persons to decide that such a course of action is a good idea? Who the hell knows. So sad, for everyone killed, injured, and in every other way harmed by these people, and sad also -- in a slightly different way -- for anyone related to these men, who now have to live with that.

My suspicion is that the older brother was the "leader" and the younger kid followed along. It's quite common in these duos for one to be the aggressive one and the other to be the patsy, or weaker one. Getting out from the influence of an older, stronger personality (and in this case sibling) is difficult. The Columbine guys and the Washington snipers come to mind.
