Only the hardcore would possibly know his name, but if you're of an age, you certainly know some of his work.

Please do not forget The Troggs Tapes, an expletive filled delight from a late Troggs recording session.
"You wanna spray some f%%%ing fairy dust on it" exclaims band member Ronnie Bond to a beleagured producer as yet another Troggs comeback rehearsal goes tragically awry. Spinal Tap acknowledge a debt of gratitude to it, and Bob Dylan allegedly sought out Bond in later life and asked him if it was indeed he who had uttered the above immortal words. When Bond replied in his deep Hampshire accent "Yes, it were f%%%ing me!" Dylan had to turn away in haste lest the by now ex-Trogg should see the Voice of a Generation dissolve into uncontrollable laughter.

track link to the Troggos......

At the '66 Canadian Championships/Commonwealth Games Trials, I was in a "night club" (glorified pizza bar) near the University of Alberta campus in Edmonton (same night Harry Jerome ran WR 9.1 for 100y).

Bill Crothers ('64 Olympic 800 silver medalist) was in the room, and he was about a straight as straight could get.. but I have memory of his getting up and boogieing (sp?) when Wild Thing was played.

(ps--i finished 6th in the triple jump and didn't make the team for Kingston)

Just a slight correction..written by Chip Taylor (AKA James Wesley Voight, younger brother of actor Jon Voight and uncle of Angelina Jolie), adopted by Reg, Jimi, and others.

Among other Chip Taylor songs that were made popular by other artists was "Angel of the Morning" (first made popular by Merrilee Rush and later also covered by Juice Newton and others).

The Wild Ones were the first band to release Wild Thing as a record, about 6 months before the Troggs did... A YouTube search of Wild Thing + Wild Ones will provide audio of the original record... An interesting version, but there's no way I'm giving up the Troggs or Jimi for it.. :)
