Re: RIP: Chingachgook
So please refresh my memory. Was he the guy that played the father figure to Daniel Day Lewis's character or was he one of the "bad-guy" indians who fought them. Can't recall, been too long.
Re: RIP: Chingachgook
Good guy!! More of a companion, like an early Tonto.
Re: RIP: Chingachgook
Hawkeye tales were among the favorite reading of my youth. It is too bad that no movie came close to truly match Cooper's writing. BTW, the Slovak translation that I read at that time had it translated as Falconeye
Re: RIP: ChingachgookYes, the father of Uncas, who at the end of an almost-perfect movie finally kills truly one of the great villains of all time, Magwa, a character absolutely nailed by Wes Studi.
Re: RIP: ChingachgookNow I am going to have to go home and watch it. He did play a great character. Very good movie.
Re: RIP: Chingachgookthe only movie I have actually permanently burned to my laptop, in case I ever need a good case of tearing up whilst on the road.
Re: RIP: ChingachgookThe best movie ever made from a horrible book (well, series of books). My wife and I love it just as much as she loves Mark Twain's The Literary Offenses of Fenimore Cooper, in which it is claimed that The Deerslayer committed "114 offenses against literary art out of a possible 115". Plot, dialogue, acting, scenery, soundtrack, all among my favorites from any film.
Re: RIP: ChingachgookIt's a nasty sounding name... sort of a combination of a racial slur suffix with an F-word in Spanish prefix with nothing much in between...
Re: RIP: Chingachgook
In Norwegian he was Falkøye. I was nuts about those books (Leatherstocking Tales) when I was between 8 and 12. In Norwegian translations. They were enormously popular.
