14.000 Reasons to Believe...

Postby EPelle » Tue Jan 03, 2006 10:40 am

tafnut is killing me... seven posts to go, and he lays low!

Today is most likely the big "official" day tafnut passes the 14.000-post barrier -- a feat 5 years into the future for most of us :-)

Looking back on the flavour tafnut has added to this board, one post jumped out most -- a post which showed the true character behind the screen name.

One of the famous malmo-tafnut "discussions" was headed down a dark alley filled with ex-shotputters who hade jumped out of a rusty van...pocket knives were visible. People began trembling, T&F Web Dude shook his fist and said he would just start banning people from the street... no more play time if someone didn:t turn on the lights.

"They are whining anonymous little girls", malmo screamed.

Tension was high.

Then silence. What could have evolved into a possible 187 by keystroke turned into something beautiful. malmo and tafnut made 'friends.'

malmo: 'Well, now I have a name to match to your anonym. Could have met under better circumstances I'm sure."

tafnut responded: "I sure wish so. Talking face-to-face usually curtails the bravado factor a thousandfold. I hope we will meet someday, and sit down and have a track discussion. I would love to hear some 'war stories'."

'still' your friend,
Pat

And so began my respect for tafnut. What:s your favourite tafnut story? Favourite post?

seconded!

This tafnut dude is AWESOME! Sometimes his sense of humor is a teensy bit 'off', but I think we can attribute that to too many headers in his second favorite sport, soccer.

He really does seem to be the welcoming sort, and I hope the powers that be see that he means well, even if he is a tad too 'enthiusiastic' at times.

All in all, a very likeable fellow! :D

Well, it is not quite that bad, but it is close. Today is the 994th day since tafnut’s first post (opening day of the board – April 16th, 2003), so he is averaging 14.08450704 (more or less) posts per day. This does leave him some room for a minimal, rudimentary life of some kind. :P

I just did a search for posts by tafnut with Daisy in the content.

On my first day on the board he was very friendly and welcoming.

His first post directed at me was with regard to converting metric conversions:
Don't confuse Daisy with the facts! (just kidding - I do understand where Daisy's coming from - but I also think he/she is selling the Euro athletes short.)

Second post:
"Or maybe those designer genes that led to huge bell bottoms?"
you have the right stuff for this board, Daisy!

Third post:
Simply put – thank you. Today was going to be a rather dull day. Sitting at my desk, updating our school’s Summer Programs database can be deadly. I did take my wife out for lunch, and we ran errands, and I did play in the pool with my year-old grandson, but today was mostly computer grunt work, which makes me crabby. But . . . with your help, I actually had a lot of fun today. I probably set a PR for posts, but that's because there were lots of interesting people saying lots of interesting things today. I made a couple of gaffes, got smacked a couple of times, but mostly all in good fun and exchange of information. I especially thank the ‘regulars’ (you know who you are – yes, even you, satch) for posting what they’re thinking. Daisy is a relatively new name, who had some good stuff too. If anyone’s out there lurking – come on in, the water’s fine! I’m signing off now to watch my one TV show for the weekend - USA’s ‘Dead Zone’, but I did want to thank everyone for posting today. Makes my crabby days go much better!

That set the tone for my arrival and was certainly a reason why i came back for more.

It all went down hill from there :-)

The most recent post was also with regard to metric:
Dear Daisy and Mark,
You live in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA now, dudes - deal with it!!

I specifically remember that third one - the 'thank you' one - because shortly thereafter a poster seriously ridiculed me for being such a wuss that I would actually thank people for posting. Apparently some people don't like sincerity . . . (and of course that particular emoticon proves once again what a wuss I really am!

A 20m. shot putt is something to appreciate - not quite the same for a 60wtf' putt - New Year's resolution here, no more metric comments!

Easy on the "Get a life" comments! My wife was actually happy to see me get on these boards. She's says I'm talking to my "friends" or other "track nerds". :) She's just happy that I have an outlet for T&F so I'll stop talking to her about it!!

Tafnut, keep doin' your thang! What will have everyone concerned is when a month goes by without a tafnut post . . . :(

Well my first real memory of tafnut is when he asked me to marry him. I had to move, assume a new identity and hire protection. :?

Then I got to know him abit and I had to move, get a new identity and hire protection.

19.32? Rubbish
10.49? Easy
8.90? Last a year
47.99? Why not

14.08450704 posts per day over nearly 3 years? Now here's a record that won't be beaten in our lifetimes....

Tafnut, my life would be poorer without you. Should I shrug or seek help

Pshaw - I didn't even break a sweat. I plan on retiring as the Cal Ripken of the Message Board. I understand the Mtn Vu boyz already have a bust of me in the office lobby (or was it that wanted to bust me in the lobby of the office? . . . or they wanted me bussed out of the lobby . . . or)

I'm in a hurry cuz I either have only 11 years left to live - or 30 - depending on how the Nature vs. Nurture debate turns out.

Unlike Brett Farve and his 221 consecutive NFL starts, tafnut's record is superior because he has made 14,000 posts without a helmet or a protective cup.

So it should be easier to take him out. How come he keeps bouncing back? No neurons?
