Ok, it could happen, theoretically: a 6-5-3 double play initiated by A-Rod, flipped to Jeter, and the final put-out recorded by Nomar. Whichever way it plays out, Steinbrenner - and now Torre - are on the hunt for Garciaparra, with Torre apparently phoning the star athlete yesterday and expressing interest in him.

Saw that, despite signing Johnson, the Yankees could not buy a World Series berth last year. Will make for one of the greatest (?) infield line-ups and defensive players on the same team.

from an AP story this morning

<<Rodriguez also addressed the possibility that the Yankees would sign free agent Nomar Garciaparra......

"That would be kind of weird," A-Rod said. "I remember almost 10 years ago we made the cover of GQ, us three as the premier shortstops in the game coming up. And now all of us may be in the same infield. I think that's kind of funny.">>

Buying past the prime? Randy is not at his best. What about Nomar? They should stick with their farm system, thay have had a lot of success in the past and the team chemistry is always better.

Garciaparra Agrees to Join Dodgers with One-year Deal

AP Report wrote:Dec. 18, 2005
CBS SportsLine.com wire reports

LOS ANGELES -- Five-time All-Star Nomar Garciaparra is joining the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Garciaparra also considered the New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians and Houston Astros before agreeing Sunday to a $6 million, one-year contract that allows him to earn an additional $4 million in performance bonuses.

He spent several hours with Dodgers executives Thursday and Friday -- the first day with agent Arn Tellem, the second with his wife, former soccer star Mia Hamm. Garciaparra and Hamm live in suburban Manhattan Beach.

The 32-year-old Garciaparra, the American League rookie of the year in 1997, was considered one of baseball's best shortstops for several years while playing for the Boston Red Sox, and won AL batting titles in 1999 and 2000. But his playing time was limited during the past two seasons because of injuries. Full Story

Yanks Sting BoSox, Sign Damon for $52M

NEW YORK -- Johnny Damon gives the Yankees their first big-time leadoff hitter since Chuck Knoblauch was at the top of the order a half-decade ago -- an era when New York won three straight World Series titles and four consecutive AL pennants.

Damon's decision to bolt Boston and accept a $52 million, four-year contract from the Yankees on Tuesday night also provides New York with a center fielder who covers a large amount of ground.

Details of the deal were still being negotiated and Damon must pass a physical, a baseball official said on condition of anonymity because negotiations were not yet final. The physical could take place Thursday, allowing the deal to be completed this week.
Story Here

So they miss out on Nomar and sign Damon. Waste of money. Two, three years ago the guy:s in an Oakland uniform and now he is making 52M?

Santa Clas is Coming to Town

Sportsline wrote:Somebody pass the fudge -- it's a group of excited New York City barbers with visions of increased earnings, to the tune of Santa Claus is Coming to Town." Talk about a true Barbershop Quartet!

You better watch out
Order extra dye
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Johnny Damon's coming to town

He's combing his locks
He's looking really grim
Gonna come in for a shave and a trim
Johnny Damon's coming to town

His hair tangles while he's sleeping
It's wild when he's awake
With a shorter style and a conditioning rinse
He'll no longer need a rake!

Oh! You better watch out
Order extra gel
Better not pout
We're going to get well
Johnny Damon's coming to town
