Wanted - The Jim Ryun Story, other books

Postby matty.bou » Fri Jul 01, 2005 8:34 pm

Anybody out there have this book by Cordner Nelson and Jim Ryun and is willing to part with it? I would extremely appreciate anybody's offers that I could consider. I'd be willing to possibly trade something or pay. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also, I'm looking for a few other books if anybody has them-

No Bugles, No Drums - Peter Snell
Olympic Gold - Frank Shorter
Best Efforts - Kenny Moore
Self Made Olympian - Ron Daws
The Lonely Breed - Ron Clarke

Please help out a soon to be college runner trying to expand their collection of running books. Thanks in advance.

I have these books if you're interested. All are hardbacks except "Pre!", which is a paperback.

The Jim Ryun Story, by Cordner Nelson - with library jacket and autographed: "Go with God, Paul, Jim Ryun, John 3:3-8"

Best Efforts, by Kenny Moore

Olympic Gold, by Frank Shorter

First Four Minutes, by Roger Bannister (Second Impression, October 1955)

Pre! by Tom Jordan

Make me an offer for one or all of these books. They are T&F classics and outstanding reads. Downsizing is no fun when you have to part with books like these.

I have most of these, but don't want to part with them, so I'm just writing to encourage you to keep looking for these books. I've had some success on eBay, and some on Bookfinder (www.bookfinder.com), which brings together lots of vendors of used, rare, & out-of-print books. And, although it's an unpredictable process, I've had a lot of success at library book sales, etc. Generally, few people want books on these topics, and so they can be acquired almost nothing (e.g. -- I found an autographed copy of Grete Waitz's World Class). So, good luck in the search!

Here's another one you might look for:
Title: Jim Ryun: Master of the Mile
Author: John Lake
NY: Random House 1968
It's interesting mostly because it was published before 68OG, so it's looking at Ryun before the race that would be (for a lot of people -- not me) the definitive moment of Ryun's career. It's reasonably well-written, w/ lots of good pictures.

I have 2 copies, if you are interested in one send me an email at matty.bou@gmail.com.

They are both in great condition. One of the copies I'm not willing to give up because it's signed by Jim. I also have another Jim Ryun book, "The Master of the Mile" which is in good condition as well if you or anybody is interested in that.
