NY Times Editorial on testosterone

Today's NY Times has an editorial on the abuse of testosterone by normal individuals. The editors believe too many men are taking the drug without concerning about long term effects (does that sound familiar?)

"There is preliminary evidence from small studies, but nothing close to proof, that testosterone therapy may improve men's sex drive, strength, cognitive function and sense of well-being. There is no compelling evidence of harm, but there are worries that testosterone may increase prostate cancer or cardiovascular problems."

One of the major broadcast networks (sorry can't remember which, maybe I need some testosterone) did a feature on a man who is using a testosterone cream, and he went from having no sex drive, feeling "I was really losing it," to improved mental functioning, better health, and a sex drive "like a 20-year-old." Very little said on risks; his doctor said it's really a wonderful thing for people with low testosterone. Would that include most men over 50? Piece ended with the guy dancing and drinking wine with his wife, who looked pleased as can be . . .
