"Informational" urine testing

Postby drbop » Thu Sep 14, 2006 11:36 am

It was widely reported that BALCO athletes regularly availed themselves of
"informational" testing of their urine.. This would allow
them to develop "Injuries" or "lack of fitness" when they tested positive. Of course
the results would be confidential and available to the athlete only. I got this
request more than once when I was in private practice and Indiana University
had an accredited laboratory. I can't help but think of this whenever a major
figure pulls out of a major competition a day or two before it starts.

Which is of course most unfortunate, because now anyone with a legitimate reason to back out of a meet is viewed as suspicious. Quite the ugly web that has been woven.
