Temple

Postby DoubleRBar » Wed Nov 20, 2013 4:30 pm

Happy birthday today (Wednesday) to an Olympic champion who competed in two Olympic Games. Our birthday athlete was only 16 years old when competing in the first of the two Olympic Games.

This champion placed fourth in the first Games. Four years later, our birthday person won the Olympic gold medal. This medal did not come without some controversy.

Don't worry about the hurdles when trying to figure the name of this champion. You might consider the hurdles when trying to figure the person who took the silver medal.

Born 102 years ago today, this athlete died at the age of 86.

Eight years before our champion won the Olympic gold medal, another athlete (with the same initials) won Olympic gold in the same event that Carl Lewis won Olympic gold. Carl Lewis and our birthday person both won Olympic gold in the same stadium.

Name our birthday athlete for this Wednesday in November.

It's Jean Shiley, the women's HJ champion.

Yes indeed, it was Jean Shiley who was born 102 years ago yesterday. Nice job, gm33. Jean Shiley was fourth in the 1928 high jump and she came back four year later in Los Angeles to win the Olympic gold medal.

Temple just announced today that they're dropping their men's track & field program effective July 1, 2014. Shame.

Unfortunately they have that massive money pit of a football program.
