Vol Leonard Scott

Postby BillVol » Thu Sep 19, 2013 9:06 pm

We drove through Knoxville today after spending a couple of days in the hipster city of Asheville, NC. Shocker -- they were talking track on sports radio in Knoxville. Just caught a little of it, but one of the commentators said that Leonard Scott never equaled his HS times while at Tennessee and that this was unusual. That was news to me, if true.

I know he ran sub10.00 three times, but while at Tennesee...hmmm?

2001 10.05 12 Eugene May 31
2004 10.01 10 Sacramento Jul 11
2005 9.94 3 London (CP) Jul 22
2006 9.91 5 Stuttgart Sep 09
2007 10.09 25 Indianapolis, IN Jun 22

He was still at Tennesee in 2001. His HS PR ws a 10.29...I think.

Talking track on the radio..?

Football guys talking track usually not a good thing. Thanks for the stats on Leonard. I wonder if I missed something and it was the 40y or 60m they were referring to? Even at those distances, no way Scott's HS times were better than his UT times. IIRC, Scott was NCAA champ in the 60.

His 9.91 is the fastest time ever ran by anyone who played college football.

That may be, but it seems to me that the fastest man ever to play college football was Bob Hayes.

I agree, what he ran on those dirt tracks would be superior to what came later. He was running back at FAMU.His running mate was Bob Paremore a 9.4 guy himself. So the Rattlers had the fastest set of backs ever up to that point in time. Parenore draffted by the St.Louis Cardinals.

Leonard Scott shares the Tennessee school record at 100 meters with Justin Gatlin. Gatlin ran 10.05 in 2002. Scott ran 10.05 in the preliminary round, on Thursday May 31, 2001 (Eugene, OR). That run advanced him to the NCAA semi-final.

On several occasions, he ran significantly faster, with legal wind, at Tennessee, than he did at Zachary high school. As much as I love Tilastopaja, they miss alot of runs and should not be the sole reference for any athlete's body of work. Special omission is noted for the Texas State high school meet, for which marks are seldom documented on the Finnish website.
He never ran sub 10 at Tennessee. He ran at Tennessee from 1999 to 2002. His 9.91 was as a post-grad.
