Carpinteria Russell Cup - Please Add Recollections

Postby jhc68 » Tue Sep 10, 2013 2:20 pm

The Carpinteria HS (CA) Russell Cup Meet will celebrate its centennial next spring and organizers are asking for memories or anecdotes from former competitors for use in the program and/or meet publicity.
If you ran, jumped or threw at the Russell Cup please post your impressions on this thread. The meet historian will be most appreciative for any input you provide. Thanks!

The meet began in 1914 and the 2014 meet will be the 95th running.
For many years it was an meet open to any high school. Now it is limited to schools with enrollment under 1,000.
Carp High, the host, is a public school with less than 800 students which has produced 4 California State Meet Champions (Ralph Wood, 1935 880 / Tom Grewe 1982 1600 / Coley Candaele 1990 1600 / Noah Bryant 2002 Shotput)
