Name of former 12K (or 12 mile?) race?

Postby aaronk » Thu Aug 29, 2013 3:13 pm

USATF made an announcement of an upcoming 12K race on Twitter today.
That reminded me of a race held long ago......the 60"s and 70"s??......maybe in Canada??.....and the distance was either 12K or 12 miles!!

I no longer own T&FN's from before 2000, so I can't look there for the answer, though I recall this race getting T&FN coverage, because many top name runners ran it every year.

If a 12K (which I'm pretty sure was the distance!), the times were usually in the 35 and 36 minute range.
If a 12 miler, the times were in the 55 and 56 minute range.

Can anyone remember the name of the race, the actual distance, and some of the winners??
Thank you.

Nope!
This one, I'm pretty sure, was in Canada, and was held annually for several years in the 60's & 70's.
Probably stopped after the 70's.
I remember it because it was an odd distance (like Bloomsday/Falmouth/Bay to Breakers)....maybe 7.6 miles (or 12K).
T&FN covered it in their Road Report they had for many years back then.
Big name runners ran it.....before the African explosion.

If you have access to T&FN's of that period (I used to!!!), you'd find references to it.....with results, etc.
Maybe GH would remember.....or a runner who ran the race!!

FOUND IT!!!!

In fact, there's a THREAD on it here in the Historical section.

Look for "Springbank International Road Races" (title of thread), begun on July 9, 2012 by "tyche".
He/she was seeking info on one or more of the races.
And I was correct.
They were held in London, Ontario, Canada in the 60's & 70's!!

How would I combine THIS thread to "tyche"s??

The 46th edition of the Springbank Road Races (in rather a different form than the glorious 70s) was run today in London as a half marathon.

Hopefully you found the links to the Springbank International information on the London Pacers website: http://www.londonpacers.on.ca/Pages/Our_results.htm

There are some fantastic photos from Kettering Striders, OH runner, the late Jim Gerrard from the middle 70s here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/londonpace ... 597435742/

We are looking for identification for many of the photos.
