Lindgren was amazing. It boggles the mind that it was not until Rupp that his HS record was broken. Also I didnt realize how short Lindgren was.

I believe his height during his competitive days was listed at 6 feet 5 inches!!
(Isn't Andrew Wheating the same height??)
Gerry Lindgren was listed as 5 feet 6 inches!!

Wheating is listed as 6'5", but he isn't running the marathon.

Dutra5 - I recall the same - 6' 6"

Believe that's Ralph Boston commenting on Tim Vollmer / Silvester discus

Last lap 59.2 .. shade different than today's guys - no? If I recall - that was considered a pretty impressive finish.

At the 1966 Coliseum Relays, Jim Ryun and Jim Grelle both ran 8:25.2 for two miles.
Ryun's mile splits were 4:15 and 4:10.......and his last lap was 56.4!!
He had just turned 19!!

I was there!! :D

A great run. I wish I had been in Rieti to watch Komen's 3K WR. Probably my favorite piece on yt. Each lap under 60 sec., and certainly well below 8:00 for 2 miles, only 42 years after Bannister's 1954 historic run.
