Gold Medals in three consecutive Chamipionships Trivia

Postby Fortius19 » Sun Jul 28, 2013 7:59 pm

The last six Olympics have been book-ended by a WC (or will have been very soon).

Accordingly, I count ten instances where a male won Gold three years in a row.

Any guesses? No peaking!

Looking at the answers now, they look pretty easy as it usually takes a big name to win so much. What's more surprising, is the big names that haven't won such three.

Also, six men are poised to complete the treble at Moscow.

Wow, too easy. Good job.

There's one more.

And how about the six guys that have the potential to get three in a row this August?

As far as the women go, according to my count, it looks like the three-golds-in-three-consecutive-years trick has been done only five times.

BUT, there are currently seven women, who if they win in Moscow, will join their ranks.

Name the five who have done it, and

Name the seven who are potentials.

Right?

Is it three years in a row? Then neither Bolt,Taylor or James qualify. For Bolt, no Champs. in 2010.

Three years in row as: (1) WC, (2) Olympics, (3) WC. Not counting years with no WC or Olympics Iike 2010, 2006, etc.

Above are athletes that won Gold in '11 and '12 and have the potential to win Gold again this year to get their three years in a row.

luther got the last man with three Golds in a row! Good job!

LU got 4/5 women, wow! How do you remember all that? :) I'm surprised Olga (a walker) was remembered.

Hint: #5 woman is an American

There's still SEVEN women who can turn the trick this August!
one is Val Adams, who, as mentioned, already did it once! (I think she could probably even do it again in '15, '16, '17)

Can you name the other SIX?

Gold in Moscow, London, Daegu, Berlin, Beijing
Bolt - 200
Bolt - 4x100
Adams - shot

Gold in Moscow, London, Daegu, Berlin, Beijing, Osaka
Adams - shot

Bolt got silvers in both 200m and 4x100m
Mind you given recent events it will be interesting to see the results of the Osaka final tests in 2015.

And as suggested by fortius19, Adams is probably good for 2015, 2016 and 2017 - and dare I say it even 2019, 2020 and 2021 if she decides to keep on going and remains injury free. In 2021 she will still only be 37 years old at the WCs.
