Lincoln's Warm-Up

Postby DoubleRBar » Sat Jul 13, 2013 2:37 pm

Happy birthday today (Saturday) to an Olympic champion with two Olympic gold medals. Both gold medals were won at different Olympics.

Our Olympic champion also competed in a different event, however this person did not medal in this other event.

This birthday athlete won both gold medals on August 15.

Born on a Wednesday during the same year that Grover Cleveland was elected U.S. president for a second time, our birthday champion died in San Francisco, California.

Don't even think about the hurdles when trying to figure this Olympic gold medalist.

You can eliminate Africa, South America, Australia, and Asia when thinking of the continent where our birthday person was born.

Only 212 miles (approximately) separate the two Olympic stadiums where our birthday individual won gold medals.

Competing in three Olympic Games, this Olympic champion won gold medals in the last two of those three Olympics.

Eighth place is where this athlete finished in the first of those three Olympic Games.

The jumping events and the steeplechase may be eliminated when trying to figure this athlete's main event.

Olympic gold medals were won on a Sunday and a Friday for this champion.

Disneyland opened about six months after our birthday athlete died. Our birthday athlete died on a Saturday and Disneyland opened on a Sunday.

Marathon and the relays were not Olympic events for this person.

Can you name this two-time Olympic gold medalist? Name the athlete.

Nice job, bambam. It was Jonni Myyra who was born 121 years ago yesterday. If you are wondering about the title "Lincoln's Warm-Up", I can tell you that Jonni Myyra was hit in the left shoulder (he threw with his right arm) during the warm-ups by James Lincoln (American javelin thrower). In 1920, the javelin qualifying and the finals were held on the same day. Myyra managed to qualify for the final throws and went on to win the gold medal. Amazing story.
