What happened to Laurynne Chetelat?

Postby aaronk » Tue May 07, 2013 8:47 pm

Don't know if the whereabouts of a runner who starred in HS in 2008 fits in "Historical", but....

I just watched the video of the CIF Championship Girl's 3200 race from 2008.
Jordan Hasay....We all know HER!!....ran 9:48.16 to outkick Chetelat by about 0.3 seconds, Chetelat running 9:48.51.
They passed 1600 in about 5:03, so both ran their last 1600 in 4:45!!
And that last 800,,,,in about 2:17!!.... was all Hasay and Chetelat!!
Fantastic race!!

Soooooo....what happened to her.
All I could find was that this Davis CA runner went to Stanford.
But just 5 years later, she seems to have disappeared.

Did she "retire" from running?
Get injured?
Did she ever run for Stanford??
Did she get married, so is competing under a different name??

Curious minds want to know!

Here's a partial answer to your questions:

http://www.calbears.com/sports/c-otrack ... nne00.html

(But note this profile is older -- 2010 or 2011 -- she is not on Cal's 2013 roster.)

Thanks to EPelle and Master Po!
Searched through the middle/long distance lists for NCAA for both 2011 and 2012....and no Chetelat!
Then I checked the 2013 US and Collegiate list.....and she's not there either.

So something happened between 2009-10 and now, but I don't know what.

Good to hear she's training.
Maybe she's "coming back" from whatever happened!!
I repeat, her and Hasay's race was FANTASTIC!!
And to run 15:43 in her freshman year (2009) was good progress.

No idea where your 9:48.16/9:48.51 numbers came from. Hasay would have been able to claim the NR at 3200. The actual times were 9:52.13 and 9:52.51.

Thanks!!
Not sure either where I got those faster figures!!
Maybe I read them wrong....or it was wishful thinking??

Anyway, thanks for the correction.
Still, it was a GREAT race!!

Her profile on all-athletics.com shows just one performance post-2009:
17:12.85 5k at the 2011 Stanford Invitational.
