Just noticed two new books, covering similar ground:

Bill Rodgers, "Marathon Man: My 26.2 Mile Journey from Grad Student to the Top of the Running World" (2013)

Cameron Stracher, "kings of the Road: How Frank Shorter, Bill Rodgers, and Alberto Salazar Made Running Go Boom" (2013).

Thanks for the heads up!!

I'd started running in 1962, and continued through June 1966.
Then stopped cold.....joining the era of the hippie!
Following Shorter's Munich win, I got inspired again.
In June 1973, I ran my first marathon!!

I have to say Frank Shorter was the inspiration for my return!

And I LOVED Rodgers Boston race of 1975.
Tying his shoes twice (or more??) during the race, and still running 2:09:55!!

While not as enamored of Salazar then, I could definitely appreciate his aggressive efforts to run fast times!!

This book goes on my list of books to buy!!
