Who am I ?

Postby jmd » Wed Mar 13, 2013 7:02 am

Born on March, 13, our champion won his country's championship as soon as 1960...

Two years later, he was an European champion !

And a few years after, he got two bronze medals, at two consecutive OG...

And the first time, he certainly saw a "bullet" past near him...

Was he a distance runner ? No !
A hurdler ? No !
A jumper ? A thrower ? No...

Oh ! He was born in the same country where I live...

Great question. I had to look it up, so won't give the answer. I was unfamiliar with him.

He must be a French sprinter like Delecor. France got bronze in Tokyo and Mexico City in the relay. Maybe their third man, since he would have been very close to Bob Hayes in 1964. I don't know his name.

My initial reaction was Radford, but his 2 bronzes were in 1960. Its got to be be a relay runner. The Bullet hint says a male. Claude Piquemel?

it's Claude Piquemal, a 4x100 relay bronze medalist in 1964/1968

Congratulations gm33 and KDFINE, it's Claude Piquemal,
the French sprinter from the sixties !

He was born in 1939 and, as DoubleRBar said, he was the third man
of the French relay in 1964 and 1968 !

His records were 10.33 on 100m and 20.5 on 200m.

Thank you,
JMD

DoubleRBar's suggesting Delacour got me on the right track. For some reason I'd thought the Swede Olsson (who later died in in auto accident) won the Euro 200 in 1962, but after I guess/posted Piquemal I checked and saw that he won it and Olsson was second.

No, Owe Jonsson (not Olsson) won the Euro 200 in 1962 ahead of Foik, Ottolina and Delecour. But yes Jonnson died tragically in a traffic accident soon after.

Per. Thanks for the correction. I should have taken the time to check his name.
