Happy birthday today (Wednesday) to two Olympic champions with a total of three Olympic gold medals and one Olympic bronze medal.

The older champion was born 87 years ago today while the younger person was born 51 years ago this day.

Our younger athlete was not born in the same country as the older athlete.

Both people won Olympic gold medals in the same event.

One of the two champions died at the age of 49.

Only two people in Olympic history have won gold medals twice in this event. The older athlete is one of those two people.

Don't worry about the hurdles when trying to figure this event.

Europe, Australia, and North America are the continents where our champions won their Olympic medals.

Athlete "A" (the older of the two) had four children while athlete "B" (younger person) had two children.

At the age of 26, the older champion first won Olympic gold while the younger person was 22 when winning Olympic gold.

Take the last two digits of the year in which our older athlete was born, reverse those two digits, and you have the year in which our younger athlete was born.

Bob Richards and Pierre Quinon

Happy birthday today to Bob Richards and Pierre Quinon and congratulations bambam. Both Richards and Quinon won gold medals in the Olympic pole vault. Bob competed in the 1948 Olympics in London and took the bronze medal. He is still the only man to win two Olympic pole vault gold medals. You may remember that he was our third man in the 1956 decathlon, however he didn't medal in that event.

Pierre Quinon won the Los Angeles vault in 1984 (U.S. vs France). Of course the Soviet Union did not compete in Los Angeles. Things might have been different had they been there. Unfortunately, Quinon committed suicide in 2011 at the age of 49.

I believe Bob Richards still lives in Texas today. You might remember that he ran for president of the U.S., but that's another story.

You may remember that he was our third man in the 1956 decathlon, however he didn't medal in that event.

Sure didn't, and kept USC's Bob Lawson, deserving his chance as Alternate, from his own healthy chance at a medal. Richards knew he'd be sub-par, yet didn't let on to an injury in time to summon Lawson down under.
