One of my prized possessions is a 1973 Sunkist Invitational program.
The competitors that night included gold medalists, Viren, Keino and Wottle. After the meet Viren and Keino were standing together talking (what language, I don't know) I walked up to them and got their autographs. Their signatures sit side by side on my program. After the mile race in which Wottle beat Keino at the line in 4:06, Wottle came up an aisle near me. I chased him down and got his autograph. What a night!

I was probably a few feet away from you, although for some reason my prize souvenir from that night was an orange peel that Lasse Viren had thrown on the ground. I saved it for probably a decade until it disappeared mysteriously after I had left home for good.

My mother swears she did not throw it away.
