Today (Monday) we celebrate the birthday of an Olympic champion who was born 103 years ago this day. Our birthday athlete died ten days after his 59th birthday. This champion won Olympic gold 80 years ago on July 31.

Our birthday person was born in Massachusetts and died in Oklahoma. William Howard Taft was our president when this person was born and Lyndon Baines Johnson was president when he died.

This Olympic champion has nothing to do with the hurdles, however he does share the same initials as another Olympic track and field champion (in a different event).
