"College"

Postby DoubleRBar » Mon Jul 16, 2012 7:53 am

Happy birthday today (Monday) to an Olympic champion who died at the age of 64. Our birthday athlete was born in the only U.S. state capital with three words.

Winning the Olympic gold medal at the age of 17 (6 days before his 18th birthday), this champion is still the youngest Olympic gold medalist in his event.

Born while Theodore Roosevelt was our president, this athlete died while Richard Nixon was our president.

Can you name this Olympic champion who graduated from one of the Pacific-12 schools?

EastBayprepoftheweek67, you are correct. Happy birthday today to Lee Barnes (winner of the 1924 pole vault in Paris). And yes, Lee did go to USC. You might have seen him vaulting for Buster Keaton in the 1927 silent movie "College".
