"Flip" Long jumpI know Bruce Jenner used the flip in competition. Did any "real" long jumpers try it in competition and what were their results?
Re: "Flip" Long jump
There were some 2nd tier guys who developed it but I don't think any top tier long jumpers did it.
Re: "Flip" Long jumpI know a top tier jumper from that era who tried it... said he was instantly converted from a 26 + foot jumper to a 24 foot jumper.

gh refers to John Delamere, of New Zealand, who contributes here under his given name of Tuariki, and used this technique briefly while competing at Washington State. More here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=42421&p=748478&hilit=tauriki#p748478 .
Re: "Flip" Long jumpIn the mid-'70s was a Russian LJer Aleksey Pereverzyev PB 8/21
While Igor Ter-Ovanesyan was his coach. They conducted experiments to create a new style in the long jump, including Alex jumped "forward flip". Moreover, in training, he jumped over 8.00m. It has not been further development because the federation T&F URS found this method of jumping very dangerous and forbidden to use it in the future. An interesting fact is that throughout his career, and to this day, TER, in his interviews is always returned to this subject and believes that progress results in the long jump is associated with a change of style and technique LJ.
Re: "Flip" Long jumpBruce Jenner was among the most pissed at the ban. He had PRed with the flip, and when he had to go back to normal style, never got that good again.
