Happy 67th birthday today (Thursday) to an Olympic champion who won Olympic gold at the age of 19.

I will tell you that this gold medalist has nothing to do with the hurdles. Can you name our birthday athlete for today?

I know of three teenagers who won gold medals in Tokio 64: Wyomia Tyus, but i think you would have given us more info if it was her, Irena Szewinska and Ewa Klobukowska, both were only 18 when won gold with the polish relay. I think Tyus was the only individual winner of that age, so i assume it was someone in the american relays, and not Hayes, Carr or Larrabee. Don't know the names of any of the other relay winners from 64 though.

How about Dick Stebbins, ran in the 4x100 in Tokyo.

Per Andersen, you got him! Happy birthday today to Richard Stebbins who ran the third leg on the winning four by one relay team in Tokyo (1964). Stebbins went to high school in Los Angeles and college in Louisiana.

You could easily guess which Olympics by the ages I gave in the clues. From there, if you remember much about the Tokyo Olympics, you could narrow it down to just a few teenage gold medalists (none of which ran the Olympic hurdles).

Yeah of course, Tokyo was easy, but for example i read a LOT of books about olympic games, and i still spend hours just browsing wikipedia and other pages. But i never even heard of Dick Stebbins, that's why i am impressed. And i'm too young to remember anything about the Tokyo games, i wasn't even born then.

People like Per ( and me ! ) have an unfair advantage whenever trivia deals with anything in the 50's and 60's because we are OLD. It's gone from my brain now, but at one time I knew every Mens medal winner ( 1,2,3) in the 52, 56, 60, and 64 Games. Pathetic, I know....

Good point, dukehjsteve. I remember seeing Dick Stebbins run in high school. For some things, it helps to be old.
