I haven't spent much time in Ohio, but I think I recognize a few.

1. Edward Cook
2. Bob Schul? Don't know if he ran a marathon
10. Tommie Smith
12. Ted Corbitt
25. Bob King (also went to Stanford)

That's it for me.

I think Mills was from Lakewood. The only other thing I knew was the Huntsman/Wabash connection but someone beat me to it.

Tommie Smith coached at Oberlin College in Ohio, but I don't remember if he was also the AD and yes, he was an Olympic gold medalist.

4. Can't believe no one has this yet: Tarblooders.

8. Mills was definitely from Lakewood, set the state HS record for 440y with 46.something. This was when the Ohio HS finals were run around one turn and going out the ends of the Horseshoe.

18. Cincinatti's Thanksgiving Day race, I think.

19. Bratwurst. My college roommate was from just down the road and ran it about a dozen times.

Janis was a third Vetter, and to add another twist to all this (since I don't know the fourth sister), Debbie/Diane/Janis combined with whom to set the only 4 x 880 World Record that the IAAF ever ratified? I'm assuming she was an Ohioan as well.

This one I don't know for sure, but I'm going to make a stab at either a) The Plains or b) Nelsonville. Not a whole lot to choose from around there.

I thought 1 & 25 would be the hardest and DoubleRbar got them in the first post!
2. is Bacheler
13. discus was his 2nd best event (I think).
15. Wabash and Earlham
16. Town (village?) is on the Ohio River

All other answers are correct.
I don't know the 4th member of the 4x880, but I may call Steve Price for the answer.

16. Athens Marathon started SE of town on Rt.50/32.
21. Sue Knott and Nancy Shafer may also have 800/880 wins?
23. Jaunita is the 4th Vetter.
Think 4x880 record was 8:46.4

I suppose you're right about the shot being his better event as he was the #1 T&FN A-A that year and only #2 in the discus. I was remembering that he'd set the HSR for the big discus that year.

Hints on unanswered trivia-

3. 1972 400H
5. DD
6. Bill Schnier also coached there.
11. DP
16. _ _ _ _ville
17. Billy Joe
20. He was "money".

18, Thanksgiving Day Race also called Elks Race used to start in Fort Thomas, KY run downhill and across the Ohio River, then uphill to the Elks Lodge finish line. Think it used to be a 7miler, now a 10k.
Berwick, PA's 9mi Thanksgiving Day Run for the Diamonds is also over 100 yrs. old.
