Looks like new tables are required. 100 points is (was) supposed to represent a 'perfect' score for each event, but the 30m limit has clearly been breached (3.09 for Bates and 3.23 for Mack should not be worth the same score).

I remember doing these 25 years ago (with Thompson, Christie, Hill, Regis et al) and would be curious to know if the same 'relaxed regulations' are followed worldwide, as there was always some discrepancy even between various squads in the UK:

Overhead Shot: Standing on the stop board, no foul / penalty for falling backwards into the sector after release.

Standing LJ: No foul for falling backwards on landing (ie. still measued to rear of foot landing in the sand).

Standing 3 Jumps: Same as above. No penalties for any lack of continuity in the jumps (which was usually a penalty in itself, due to loss of speed / momentum).

30m: Athlete starts when he wishes, stopwatch is started when timekeeper judges first foot touches the ground beyond the start line (i.e. completion of first step). Therefore no reaction to account for and no electronic timing possible. Hundredths represents readout of manual timing on a digital stopwatch. Hence faster times recorded than one ever sees in the first 30m of a 100m race.

Having said that, some of the above marks look suspect to me.

I agree with your assessment regarding the sprint. I believe Max Jones created these tables in the the early 80's.

Yes, Max developed them for his throwers to alleviate mid winter boredom, back in the 80s. The throwers always performed well and were a threat to sprinters like myself - our claim being that the Overhead Shot scoring was unfairly rated in favour of the SP/DT/JT gorillas.

My own personal best was 262, which was let down - not surprisingly - by a weak Overhead Shot (approx. 15m - can't remember the exact distance but only scored 52 points). Managed 2.98m for SLJ (65 pts), 8.90m for 3 Jumps (65 pts) and 3.58 for 30m (80 pts).

Hi.
Does anyone know whether Bill Webb (or anyone else for that matter) is still keeping a record of Quadrathlon scores. I'd be very interested to see a more up to date list that maybe includes some Jamaicans?

FWIW, I believe Trey's was timed electronically with a "Speed Trap II" device.

I remember a webpage showing him and another T&F athlete (jumper?) going at it and a pic of the electronic set-up.

I tried looking on Flotrack briefly, but didn't see it.
