FloJo cannot be #1!! Even if you believe that she was clean, she only had one good year. Now her season in 1988 was remarkable but you can't put her #1 based on a single season!!

Sure Flo-Jo is #1... when you run THAT much faster than anyone else in history, before or since, then the choice is clear. Maybe she wasn't clean, but how many others on the list should we discount on that basis? Heck, Iolanda Balas maybe wasn't even a woman! Flo-Jo has to be the best.

Re: Balas. I'm sure that the late Ion Soter, Balas' husband for more than 20 years (and prior to that her coach) would have something appropriate to say about jhc68's absurd speculation.

IF you think like T&FN's world rankings committee (and that's a big if) then you can't rank Flojo #1 in the 100. They say time and time again that one race does not make a whole season, no matter how good it was. In a career mindset, then, one season does not make a whole career. Of course, if you're looking at how dominant someone was at their peak, it's hard to top Flojo.

You missed someone in the 100 -- Helen Stephens. She had an undefeated career. She never lost to Stella Walsh, and that's a "woman" we know for sure wasn't a woman.
