And I vaguely remember Robbie Brightwell as having been a rugby player before turning to track. Relay medalist maybe? I'm sure he didn't have an individual medal.

Please don't let the answer be some cricket player.

Wow ! A lot of repeated junkerama here at least 3 times, what a mess, but finally, at the very bottom of the third effort, the Duke 1960 Mile relay question has been answered correctly. Bazemore/Weisiger ( provided previously by other) duo has been correctly filled out with the addition of Tom Menaker and Satch Barnes, although the real first name of that last one is the same as the answerer. I guess he was being modest.

Only outstasnding question from me then is Gutknecht's jersey in winning AAU 6 mile in 1961.

"Which makes it a rather deceptive

Well IMHO it's one of the best trivia questions I've seen!

I guess it's too late for this old leopard to change his spots, but I share the "Harrumph!" opinion. When you say the words "World Record" to me it means one thing...... a mark made outdoors in a ratified event. Otherwise it's just a very good mark.

OK, I've got a very traditional question for all the traditionalists this time :-) ...not sure if it's easy or hard - we'll see:

Name three female athletes who won Olympic medals in both jumping throwing events.

Liddell was correct - but he was a rugby international (not a soccer player - the best known in that field was Silvio Cator LJ wr stter in 1928, who captained his national soccer team) for Scotland, playing 7 times in 1922-23. The other international was Ken Jones - who was a member of the GB team placing 2nd in 1948.

The answer to the Bykova Andonova question was though they are of different nationality they were born in the same town - Rostov on Don

Richard, for the Gutknecht question, you must have consulted T&FN, issue from way back in 1961 for the answer, and to my horror, it is not there.... just says "shirt borrowed form his grad. school...

So iguess had to be there....

correct answer is University of North Carolina.

Now at least this entire thread can fade into history........

Just re-read the question. He meant to ask who won medals in both a jumping event and a throwing event. And that would be Didricksen, Chudina, and Ostermeyer. I think this says more about the low standard of women's athletics in those days than it does about the talents of these particular women. It's hard to imagine anyone doing that today.

Sorry for not having proofread my question... but I'm glad you got it anyway :-) Didriksen, Ostermeyer and Chudina is indeed the correct answer.
