Does anyone recall Steve Williams? He had a long inseam, and would always be the # 1 ranked American sprinter in the "1" or the "2", then suffer untimely injuries prior to the Olympics.

Re: Steve Williams, star-struck sprinterDo you mean he was "star crossed"? I believe that fits he and Jim Ryun. The guys running the 100 and 200 in '76 were no doubt thrilled that Williams was out.
Re: Steve Williams, star-struck sprinterThat would apply to
>the Montreal Olympics but not any other. >> Find a copy of T&F News from the spring of 1972 and see what Steve Williams was doing as a UTEP freshman, high on the lists in all three sprints before he got injured. He already had the goods then.
Re: Steve Williams, star-struck sprinterI recall '76 Trials 100, when Steve pulled up, and announcer, presumably unaware mike was on, said "oh, shit!..", audible over the crowd. (or was it just a voice in my head?)
Steve Williams, star-crossed sprinterI meant star-crossed. Where's Dr. Freud when you need him?
