Best Race, Best Field event

Anyone who was at the 1979 Golden West meet will probably not forget the 81-3.5 by Mike Carter. And they laughed at him the morning of the meet when he asked for an 80 foot line. It was amazing....where the 2nd place throw had landed, ( I think it was around 64+ feet), Carter's toss was still going up !!

Best record in all of Track and Field, IMHO. But maybe his daughter will get married and have a son. That's how long it will take for someone to do better. Better than Johnson's 19.32 WR which is # 2 in my opinion.

So there is a good argument subject.... rank your top 10 current Men's WR's.

I enjoy hyperbole as much as the next guy, but when you say, "where the 2nd place throw had landed, ( I think it was around 64+ feet), Carter's toss was still going up !!" that means Carter would have thrown at least 128 ft!

That would be true if throws went in a perfect arc, however throws follow a parabolic arc where most of the distance comes in the first two-thirds or so and then the throw drops sharply....
