From Bert Nelson's "On Your Marks" column in March 1953:
Frank Baker of Mangum, Okla., figures that five million Russians have tied Mel Patton's world record of 9.3 for the 100 yards. Taking official Russian figures of the mourners passing Stalin's bier, Baker calculated that they travelled two abreast at 22 mile per hour, or 9.3 for the 100!
