Give me my record back!High jump progression thread got me thinking: Can anyone remember some battles between 2(or 3) athletes, where one sets the WR, loses it to someone and then gets it back...and so on...There was no "re-claiming" in the HJ after 7 feet. I'm young but I can't recall many. I think Carl Lewis did get the 100 WR back after losing it. Any other great battles over WR's??? Curious...
Re: Give me my record back!Triple Jump Olympic Games 1968 - World Record was broken 4 times by three different athletes in the final (Saneyev, Prudencio & Gentile), Gentile also broke the record in qualifying previous day.
Re: Give me my record back! The Swedish miling duo of Gunder Hägg and Arne Andersson did some great swapping in the early/mid-'40s.
1500 Hägg 3:47.6 Hägg 45.8 Andersson 3:45.0 Hägg 3:43.0 Mile Hägg 4:06.2 Anderson 4:06.2 Hägg 4:04.6 Anbdersson 4:02.6 Hägg 4:01.4 (which lasted until Bannister) More recently, Coe and Ovett went back and forth in both events, although Coe never reclaimed the 1500 record once he lost it.
Re: Give me my record back!I believe John Pennel lost his pole vault record and got it back four different times over a six year period.
Re: Give me my record back!Pierre Vineron (SP?)of France at the Grand Prix finals in Rome held the World Pole vault record (19'4+)for about five minutes when Bubka took it back (19'5+) in 1985.
