Re: 2012 OG: m800–Wow--- that pre-OG topic about the OG 800 was the longest by far- EVERYBODY seemed to have something to say... and now that the Games have started, NOBODY has anything to say, save for Epelle.
I find that kind of funny. Maybe everybody exhausted themselves about Symmonds and Rudisha and journeymen and distractions and all that.
Re: 2012 OG: m800–One thing can be said: That OG record, a very very good one, sure seems to be coming to a close.

Leader: 52,68. K Robinson in seventh at the bell. 1.19,93 at 600m. Robinson still stuck back there, trying to kick. Homestretch: Polish guy falling off pace on homestretch. Amos 1.45,90. K. Robinson 5th (1.47,17).
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Heat 2:
Rudisha in lane 7. Rudisha pulls the pace from the start. 400m: 52,70 Rudisha leads 600m: 1.20,32 Rudisha, separates from field. Homestretch: Osagie (1.46,42) sprints down field and finishes in that crucial third place spot. Rudisha runs 1.45,90 (25,58 final 200m).
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Heat 3 (featured Kaki, lane 6; Timothy Kiptum)
200m: Kaki lead from the break 400m: 52,18 Kaki continued leading 600m: 1.19,48 for leader Kaki following a small break from 400m to 500m, stretching the field Finish: 1.45,52 Kaki wins (26,04 final 200m). Kiptum 2nd (1.45,72); Mohamed 3rd overtakes Gonzalez from Cuba, who looked to hold that 3rd position firmly in his hands.
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Heat 4
Symmonds got off quickly. Borzakovskiy off in 2nd to last 200m: Bube led; Kczot in 3rd 400m: 52,53 (Borzakovskiy high 53) 600m: 1.19,69 Kczot lead with Symmonds in 3rd Home: Symmonds forced his way to the front the final 40m and wins in 1.45,91. Borzakovskiy (1.46,29) failed to finish in the auto Q spots; he's the 3rd fastest loser with three remaining heats. Kczot (1.45,99), near the finish line, looked around and ensured he was top-3.
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Kszczot wasn't looking too strong either. I mean I didn't think Borzakovskiy could win another medal, but I also didn't expect that he wouldn't even get out of the first round (unless all of the remaining races are slower ). That fast race in Monaco a couple of weeks ago has really jumbled the heats, the distribution is uneven.

Re: 2012 OG: m800–
Given the DQ of the badminton players should Makhloufi be DQ'd from the 1500?
Re: 2012 OG: m800–
On the 1500m thread, pakillo noted this: "Makhloufi showed incredible finish in both quali and semi- but he looked like he suffered some kind of injury after the race." I don't know -- maybe he is injured, or on the edge of injury & decided to abandon the 800 in favor of just the 1500.
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Kaki (Sud) leads Q to semis in 1:45.51I won't argue too hard against Bolt being the most exceptional athlete in world athletics today (and possibly ever) but if I had to sit and watch one athlete run every day for the rest of my life, it would be Rudisha.
Has there ever been a better mover than this guy? Stunning... My 8yo had the chance to see him run in Melbourne a few months back and still remembers it...he is going to be disappointed if all future runners are going to be compared against Rudisha. it can only be downhill from here.
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Kaki (Sud) leads Q to semis in 1:45.51From IAAF website:
211 Nijel Amos BOT 1:45.90 Q . 2 9 1230 Fabiano Peçanha BRA 1:46.29 Q . 3 7 1624 Luis Alberto Marco ESP 1:46.86 Q . 4 5 3248 Khadevis Robinson USA 1:47.17 . 5 2 2658 Marcin Lewandowski POL 1:47.64 q How does Lewandowski advance over Robinson? Was there a pushing or tripping incident and advanced on protest? And it is correct, as ML shows on the startlist for tomorrow and KD does not. Thx for any info anyone can share.
Re: 2012 OG: m800–
He is not injured
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Kaki (Sud) leads Q to semis in 1:45.51
Must be a mistake on the IAAF website, since 10 athletes had better non-qualifying times than Lewandowski. I don't recall any incidents in that race, but then again, I wasn't watching ML since he was pretty much out of it.
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Kaki (Sud) leads Q to semis in 1:45.51Al-Azemi was DQ'd in that heat. I did not see a foul, but it is the most probable explanation.
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Kaki (Sud) leads Q to semis in 1:45.51Just watched the NBC replay. Looks like the DQ'd runner grabbed at ML down the stretch, so guessing successful protest of that.
Robinson a non-qualifier in 1:47.17. I didn't see it- either he was boxed in, in a sick-and-kick race, or something is seriously wrong with his form. Or both. I lean toward the latter--- seventh at the bell is totally nuts unless you're hurt. I DID see that a runner SLOWER than Robinson qualified in this same heat when somebody else got DQ'd, so I presume that advancement was because he got knocked around by the DQ'd offender. Maybe Robinson got hindered too in the same incident (presumably it happened on the first lap, which would explain that "seventh at the bell"), but not enough to advance Robinson. Will have to watch the replay, or one of you guys tell us.
Re:
I didn't see anything that might have hindered KD, besides his poor race tactics. He looked a lot like Wheating yesterday with nothing in the tank during crunch time. Perhaps KD was also suffering some sort of malady.
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Kaki (Sud) leads Q to semis in 1:45.51Hope Kaki Khamis keeps his heads together because he has what it takes to battle for the gold.
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Kaki (Sud) leads Q to semis in 1:45.51
I watched that replay twice. Hard to see since if there was a grab, it was from behind and not detectable from the replay. ML did seem to falter at that moment, but I think he caught a break since even if the grab cost him half a second (and it didn't appear to be much more than a jostle), he still wouldn't have qualified.
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Kaki (Sud) leads Q to semis in 1:45.51Khadevis Robinson, 800m: “I tried to run a different kind of race, and I tried to get myself in a better position than I had all season. I tried to get in that fourth or fifth position as opposed to being in the back, and I didn’t get that position, so I just faltered. I never could grab it so I just ran in lane two the whole race. You just can’t do that here.”

Re: 2012 OG: m800–Kaki (Sud) leads Q to semis in 1:45.51
Andreas Bube's 1:46:40 is the time that gets pushed out because of the successful protest, not Robinson. I'd be pretty annoyed if I were him. Doesn't seem like Lewandowski was impeded THAT much.
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Kaki (Sud) leads Q to semis in 1:45.51
Seems he advances in addition to the three fastest time-qualifiers, so nobody got left out because of that.

Re: 2012 OG: m800–Kaki (Sud) leads Q to semis in 1:45.51Did anyone see Aman jump from lane two to lane three at the cones?
I can't believe Borzokovsky's time held up through 4 rounds!
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Kaki (Sud) leads Q to semis in 1:45.51
Yes, that was really weird. Perhaps his coach told him to be sure not to get boxed on the inside.
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Kaki (Sud) leads Q to semis in 1:45.51
So they determined that Lewandowski was impeded to the tune of 1.25 seconds?? To make him .01 faster than Bube. Really??? Why wouldn't they just move them both on? It's not like I haven't seen 2 guys have to share a lane in a semi-final before.
Re: 2012 OG: m800–Kaki (Sud) leads Q to semis in 1:45.51As j-a-m pointed out, Lewandowski advanced in addition to the original 3 time qualifiers, so no one was left out. Also, with it being a 9 lane track, no need to share lanes. The start lists for the semis that were posted above show 9 in the second semi.
