w/ Idowu in such a tenuous position, how's chances that Taylor & Claye (not nec. in that order) match the Conley/Simpkins 1-2 of '92?

Has anyone ever medaled in both disciplines, let alone in the same Olympics?

Apparently the last man to achieve that in the Olympics was a Japanese athlete in 1936.

I wonder when the last time was that someone pulled of a double in any 2 field-events. I'm guessing it would be a SP/DT guy or gal.

injuries, didn't compete recently, avoided public appearances; 16.47 in first attempt, needs to improve in order to advance. edit: overall not great competition, possible that 16.47 could be just enough.

Just watched Idowu's 2nd attempt; foul, and didn't look good overall.

16.62 for last qualifier, the standard is not very high.

Has El-Sharyf been injured? I was surprised he did not reach the final.

Is there some problem with the horizontal jumping facilities in London? The standard has been terrible in all of them (including LJ in multi events). The results in other events, especially sprints and throws, have been terrific, so it can't be the weather conditions.

He blew out his knee when he took off on his 3rd phase. It completely crumbled and I could see his femur move significantly out of alignment with is fibula.
