Have to say that Scott making the final is great to see. Baby steps (for Jamaica) in Field events, one step at a time.

Storl 21.84m!

I still think you need 22+ to win though.

I don't think that'll be the end of it, he will go way over 22 tonight.

IAAF doesn't have their attempt-by-attempt live results thing going this time, do they? They had it for World Juniors and other championships.

My atletiek predictions have 1. Majestic, 2. Hoffa, 3. Storl. Can't happen unless Hoffa throws exactly 21.87 and no further improvement from Storl

So much for cantwell's recent big throw. With the exception of Berlin all
Of his big throws have come in meaningless meets like the one on Missouri.

21.89 Majewski, nice encore!!

What happened to Armstrong? I really thought he'd be in the medals.

Great competition between Majewski and Storl. At least there are some goals left for Storl now - if he had won today he would have held all of the major titles and already won every championship at 22.

I must say, I did think Storl's best looked further than it was! Majewski was superb. I guess the gliders rule again.

Gliders rule and that is as it should be. Only Hoffa of the Americans can hold his head high.

I had all three medals but I thought Hoffa elwould do much better than 21.23. I didn't have much faith in cantwell and whiting. Armstrong has looked a shadow of himself he peaked at the wrong time, last summer.

Majewski with the 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th best attempts of the overall competition; Storl with the 3rd, 4th, and 7th best attempts. Guess they really deserved to win gold and silver today.

After the qualification round I didn't think he'd get one. Especially the way the medalists looked.

Was it Randy Treadway who said that the glide in shot put is what straddle is to high jump?

Two more Olympic medals into the count. Bow down to the consistency and the greatness of the glide.

I'm not that surprised that Americans underperformed, but I am surprised for Dylan Armstrong. Everything was going great for him, the training camp went well, he had a training PB, and the right peak was almost guaranteed. I wonder what happened.

The Majestic Majewski was great and Storl was really close, but he will get another chance.

In Zurich, Cantwell, Hoffa and Whiting are all going to throw far and some over 22m. But Zurich is just Zurich.

Is it really true the reigning World Champion has never followed through with the Olympic title and vise versa?

Shot Put. Intentional Fouls?

Postby DjTrex » Fri Aug 03, 2012 1:40 pm

So I'm sitting here at work with my boss watching the Shot Put comp and we keep noticing that some of the guys are (looks like) intentionally fouling by touching their foot to the top of the foot board. What is the reason for this?

My guess is that they know it was a poor throw. A way of saying 'don't bother measuring it'.

Obviously, anyone deliberately fouling should be pitched out of the Olympics. They are violating the spirit of sport and....you know...stuff like that.

http://www.londonolympics.org had it

You can open it up in a window right next to a window with the nbcolympics live video feed. Better than being there in the stadium!
