Re: 2012 OG: wPV–
Pshaw. That's called "staying up!"
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Why does the height progression start at 4.10? That seems pretty far below qualifying standards.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–#5 Feofanova with two misses at 4.40; almost got hurt with the second one.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Wow, Murer is out, thats the biggest name so far that didnt qualify.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Exactly 12 clear 4.55, so no tie-breaker needed.
Murer barely clears 4.50, then three misses at 4.55. Feofanova NH at 4.40. #4,5,10 don't make the final.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)Isi was way over the bar on both attempts, looking good for gold.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)The 4.50 as non-Q equals the highest ever, same as the last three WCs.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)Stélla-Iró Ledáki 13th in the Q at both London and Helsinki... ouch.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)
Even more of a coincident that both times she was kicked out by Ptácniková taking her last jump...
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)My coverage is here: http://www.polevaultpower.com/forum/vie ... 31&t=24338
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)Probably a good idea to enter the competition relatively early and get in some clearances, as long as conditions are still fine.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)
Didn't work for Bleasedale. First Brit I've seen for whom the occasion was obviously too much, she looked like a cat with dysentery on a molten lead roof. Short version - she choked.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)I have to wonder if the micromanaging from Bleasdale's coach hindered her rather than helped her. She seemed really distracted while waiting for his signal to start her run up. Surely it is better for the athlete to make their own judgement on the wind and the clock?
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)
Noticed that too, and it cannot have helped surely. But the pure desperation in her eyes when she was looking at him leads me to believe that she was psyched out from the get-go. She just couldn't hack it today.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)
I agree! How can you do your last minute mantra when you are watching the coach? BTW ... is Jenn Suhr waiting to enter at 4.75?!
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)
She opened at 4.55 and passed 4.65.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)Spiegelburg in the lead with 4.65, Silva and Isi have cleared that as well, Suhr passing at that height; not sure if anyone else is still in the competition.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)Strutz is, with 2 attempts left for 470.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)
Now Suhr clears 4.70 to take the lead.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)
Thank you ... I just saw the 4.70 clearance. The coverage in South Africa is quite good, but I must have missed her 4.55 clearance. Go Jenn!
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)Silva clears 4.70 to move into 2nd.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)Three left in the competition: Suhr, Silva, Isi
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)Maybe they should have left the camera off of Silke. She had a bit of a meltdown.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)
And Isi just failed her second attempt at 4.75, not even close.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)
Yes, the camera her was on her a lot! I feel sorry for her, she gets another fourth place.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)
Isi has the height.... But simply not the technique it appears
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)
Right, she's going up into the bar. But the wind seems pretty bad so that might be the problem. She has passed to 4.80 for her last attempt. Suhr failed her first attempt at 4.80 with a similar issue of not being in the right position going up.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)I hate for her to win due to bad weather, but if it happens, let it be so.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)And how will Isinbaeva conclude her amazing Olympic run?
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)Classy, but won't be a three-time Olympic champ.
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)
with bronze
Re: 2012 OG: wPV–Even dozen advance to final at 14-11 4.55)Isi hits the bar on the way up again; she gets the bronze. Suhr in control now.
