All that happened is that the NZOC and the NZ Athletics officials confirmed themselves to be the greatest "dorks" in the sporting world.

The startling mistake emerged only hours before Adams' Olympic shot put title defence, forcing the NZOC to plead for an emergency amendment from the International Olympic Committee and the International Association of Athletics Federations.

The IOC and IAAF have relented and Adams is in, but serious questions remain around the oversight which angered Adams on the eve of her Olympic title defence.

New Zealand Athletics eliminated, though their own BOZO paperwork, both the women's and men's champions from the Olympics. Until moments ago, that was the reality.

It was the Olympic committee who saved the day for the athlete and cudos for interpreting the rules in a fair and sensible way.... something, I think ANZ is incapable of.

Guys, please don't be mean. Ostapchuk is not muscles only and has a bit more total body fat on her than other athletes . The thing is, medically if you're an overweight man you're likely to have more oestrogens than skinny lads and if you're an overweight lady there's more of the male sex hormones around.
Ostapchuk has a perfectly reasonable improvement this year and I'm happy for her win. It'll make for better rivalry with Adams and maybe DL meetings will put SP during the TV coverage and bill these ladies as attractions for the meet . I miss field events in DL etc, it's not just bout bolt, blake gay and Gatlin.

Eyeballing the all-time list, it seems the 20.22 in 4th place is the longest 4th place throw in any shot put comp since Oct 1, 1988!

Ostapchuk was the fastest putter in the circle though she doesn't launch shots from the height of valerie or the bronce Russian

Ostapchuk is not muscles only and has a bit more total body fat on her than other athletes .

She also doesn't look that big in person as she is on the screen. I was in the same hotel as her at the European Cup Winter Throwing in Montenegro this year.

I saw Valerie Adams in Zurich and she is even more imposing than she is on the screen.
