Re: 2012 OG: wSP–Anyone know what the automatic qualifying distance is for the women's shot put?
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–no Adams on the start lists as currently posted.
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–
18.90
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–
This articled dated today out of NZ says she arrived in London from her Swiss training base "at a whole new level", ready to go. http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/olympics/t ... nal-battle If she's not showing up on start lists, it's a real mystery. I wonder if the Kiwi coaches screwed up on some kind of paperwork? I smiled when I read the article's reference to "magical measuring tapes".
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–where's Waldo?http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/olympics/t ... r-shot-put
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–no Adams dramaThis confirms that the NZ Olympic Committee is a bunch of incompetent idiot political appointees. See the article on the front page.
BTW: Adams is now on the list.
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–no Adams dramaYou can't make this stuff up. You get a view into the world that NZ athletes have to deal with.
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–no Adams dramaThe title made me look. Happily, it meant "no Adams drama", and not "no Adams, drama".
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–no Adams drama18.90m is the highest Q mark since 1993,showing the much better level than the beginning of 21st century, the winning mark may reach over 21.50m.
One strange thing is that adams and ostapchuk are both in group A,
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–no Adams dramaAll that happened is that the NZOC and the NZ Athletics officials confirmed themselves to be the greatest "dorks" in the sporting world.
I am curious to know, and somewhat afraid to find out, whether or not there are grounds to protest Valerie's entry as not being validly made. There can be no doubt now at the justification as to why Jacko was upset at NZOC/NZ Athletics and why he eventually just turned his back on them.
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–no Adams drama
Allow me to annotate the article
Hertofore referred to the "NZ AFU Amendment"
As in, "are these guys seriously brain-damaged?"
AKA, the 12th of Never.
And to get of of town.
It's just like in the movie, The Hangover.
I'm totally trying to evade an explanation of our utter incompetence.
But what WAS happening in our rooms last night probably explains this.
We'll be long gone before we fess up.
As if.
We'll have the answer right after Area 51 is opened to the Public.
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–no Adams drama
Nice work.
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–no Adams dramaCan you imagine the pantload dropped by the first admin who realized they had screwed up?
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–no Adams dramaOstapchuk 20.76 in qualifying first round.
Her Olympic form seems to equal her Kiev form.
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–no Adams drama
longest Q mark ever,
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–no Adams dramaadams tossed 20.40m in 2nd round, what happened in her 1st round? maybe the pressure from Ostapchukal ,tonight final will be fantastic. By the way,two longest Q mark in oly history may because 1980 oly has no Q at all.

Re: 2012 OG: wSP–no Adams dramawow,today Q came with some shocks,kleinert/18.36m,
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–no Adams dramaNice work from here also. HEADLINE - ANZ SHOTS ITSELF IN BOTH FEET - NEXT TIME THE HEAD? (spelling curtesy of ANZ) New Zealand Athletics eliminated, though their own BOZO paperwork, both the women's and men's champions from the Olympics. Until moments ago, that was the reality. It was the Olympic committee who saved the day for the athlete and cudos for interpreting the rules in a fair and sensible way.... something, I think ANZ is incapable of.
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–Adams (20.40) in, Camarena-Williams outAdams tossed 20.40m in 2nd round, what happened in her 1st round? maybe the pressure from Ostapchukal ,tonight final will be fantastic. By the way,two longest Q mark in oly history may because 1980 oly has no Q at all.
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–Adams (20.40) in, Camarena-Williams out
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–Adams (20.40) in, Camarena-Williams outFlumpy I think for once Ostapchuk IS reproducing her form from in Belarus...21.31!
Val needs a PB!
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–Adams (20.40) in, Camarena-Williams outOstapchuk improves to 21.36m.
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–Adams (20.40) in, Camarena-Williams outVal is not going to get this. Dammit.
Seeing Jeter and Ostapchuk compete within 1 minute of each other is a life-affirming experience. My phone's predicative spelling gave Beyer instead of Jeter. Android obviously knows no fear.
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–Adams (20.40) in, Camarena-Williams outWe are watching the greatest display of woman's putting in the modern era. Even Adams at her best would be hard pressed to win.
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–Adams (20.40) in, Camarena-Williams out
Most definitely. This is ridiculous.
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–Adams (20.40) in, Camarena-Williams out
She's good enough to have won medals 40 years ago. Wonderful and amazing. It's the sheer depth of the competition that makes it so great. Jess made me cry. This will do the same. Last edited by errolM on Mon Aug 06, 2012 11:05 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: 2012 OG: wSP–Adams (20.40) in, Camarena-Williams outSo much for Ostapchuk not performing significantly well outside of BLR.
Re: ¶2012 OG: wSP–Nadzeya Ostapchuk (Belarus) 70-1 (21.36)Guys, please don't be mean. Ostapchuk is not muscles only and has a bit more total body fat on her than other athletes . The thing is, medically if you're an overweight man you're likely to have more oestrogens than skinny lads and if you're an overweight lady there's more of the male sex hormones around.
Ostapchuk has a perfectly reasonable improvement this year and I'm happy for her win. It'll make for better rivalry with Adams and maybe DL meetings will put SP during the TV coverage and bill these ladies as attractions for the meet . I miss field events in DL etc, it's not just bout bolt, blake gay and Gatlin.
Re: ¶2012 OG: wSP–Nadzeya Ostapchuk (Belarus) 70-1 (21.36)Unless you're willing to have your picture posted in public and the etherdom at general free to comment, shut the fuck up about how athletes look—particularly women—and go away. Is that clear enough?
Re: ¶2012 OG: wSP–Nadzeya Ostapchuk (Belarus) 70-1 (21.36)Eyeballing the all-time list, it seems the 20.22 in 4th place is the longest 4th place throw in any shot put comp since Oct 1, 1988!

Re: ¶2012 OG: wSP–Nadzeya Ostapchuk (Belarus) 70-1 (21.36)Ostapchuk was the fastest putter in the circle though she doesn't launch shots from the height of valerie or the bronce Russian
Re: ¶2012 OG: wSP–Nadzeya Ostapchuk (Belarus) 70-1 (21.36)
She also doesn't look that big in person as she is on the screen. I was in the same hotel as her at the European Cup Winter Throwing in Montenegro this year. I saw Valerie Adams in Zurich and she is even more imposing than she is on the screen.
