Interesting that Z Marghieva did start after her sister was removed for a drugs offence (and will qualify most likely).

I wonder, as with the WDT, will the top German here get pushed out of the medals by a Russian on the return? Lysenko certainly looks good.

Eight auto qualifiers overall, guess that makes it a decent qualifying round.

I always believed in Miankova's case the most problematic part would be making it through the qualifying. Now that she's in, she may indeed be one of the favorites.
Then again, apart from Ostapchuk, the Belorussian throwers have been somewhat disappointing so far.

At least one of our throwers came away with a world best (okay, for farthest non-qualifying throw ever. But hey, a record's a record)

Lysenko, Włodarczyk and Zhang look the most dependable of the medal contenders. Heidler obviously has a good chance, too, but she's more likely to bomb out than those three. Miankova could be great or terrible.
I would think it's unlikely anyone outside the above five will medal, although Moreno and Klaas are likely to do well. Bespalova is sort of an unknown quality - I'm not expecting her to do that much, but she could also surprise.

And BTW, 5-12 in qualifying were all best ever marks for places!

Lysenko OR 77.56, probably not a perfect throw either (went right to the edge of sector)

Top 3 over 76 meters already in the second round, and none of them is Heidler either.

PB for Klaas in 3rd; Heidler just stays in the competition as 8th.

Almost everyone throwing to the very left side of sector; Wlodarczyk threw a near-WR throw out of sector in the fourth round

That was over 77 meters from Heidler - why is it shown as 72.34? Or was that the fourth round foul :?:

Discussion among Heidler and officials following her fifth attempt; seems they measured wrong.

What a farce.

Now I'm wondering about some of the slightly weird long jump and triple jump distances too :x

And now Wlodarczyk threw almost the same distance - who gets silver even after protest?

It's ridiculous. They now where it land from the TV. They can't rob her of a legit throw!! Is there any precedent for this?

Even if they somehow get the distance for that throw, all the discussions take so much from her. 77.30 in the fifth would have given her a boost for the last throw, but now i dont think she will be able to concentrate

There's a hole in the ground–measure it.
Plus, that last one did not look like 78m... what the hell!?
