1.68 in the HJ, so not that good.

I know :? And she's done 1.72 this season, so should have cleared at least one more height (and two more didn't seem that much of a stretch).

Her last jumps were in very bad weather conditions, and for sure rain didn't help her.

Skujyte must throw over 17m to stay in touch with top positions.

What a start for Ennis! Looked like world record is in danger but European definitely is.

For reference, here are the SP distances used in my projections, and associated points:

Skujyte 17.00 995
Dobrynska 16.00 928
Zelinka 14.80 848
Savitskaya 14.75 844
Schwarzkopf 14.40 821
Ennis 14.40 821
Chernova 14.00 794
Fountain 13.50 761

A meter is worth about 66 points.

The event starts in 3 hours . . .

Dobrynska actually scored more points in the first two events here than she did in Beijing although I doubt she's in the 17.29m form which she showed in Beijing. However, she's started well.

Ennis' 1.86m is very much on par with what she's produced in multis over the past 12 months but it's a shame she missed 1.89m after coming so close to it. Her hurdles literally left me speechless. Seeing as other athletes were so close to her and she hasn't broken 12.9 in a hurdles in a champs heptathlon, I was expecting 12.7/12.8, not 12.5!

Her hurdles time had the opposite effect on me - an involuntary yell at 5:40am, which was not appreciated by my previously-sleeping wife in the next room . . .

Fountain only 11.99 in the first throw. Must improve by meter and a half he she wants to have a chance for a medal

Some of the top women need to up the game in the third round here. Only Savtiskaya and Zelinka have impressed, relatively speaking, thus far

Fountain doesn't improve, so only gets 11.99. Now projects to 6582.

Well that has to be Dobrynska out of the medals now. Unless she can do a monster LJ, I can't see how she can come back.

Dobrynska gets a fair put of 15.05, well down on her projected 16m. So guess what? After poor puts from both Dobrynska and Fountain, they remain incredibly close on projections: 6590 to 6582, D to F.

Lilli goes 14.77 in rd 3. I really do think she can go over 6600 and medal. Her crucial event is the LJ where she will need near to 6.3

WOW at Skujyte! 17.31! I wonder if some of these are going to push out Chernova and Dobrynska?

How far roughly? Over 16?

I'm as shocked as anyone about Skujyte - wins the HJ, then sets a WB for the hep in SP! How does she do it?! (And be so rubbish on the track, which I fear will cost her)
