Bekele showing the doubters

Postby sl » Tue Jul 01, 2003 12:05 pm

According to the BBC, Kenenisa Bekele just crushed Sammy Kipketer in the 5K at Lausanne with a 52.6 last lap. Final time around 13:06.

Wow!

Those who claimed Bekele couldn't necessarily transfer his skills to the track must be starting to change their minds.

52.6 last 400 in a 5,000. WOW!

Thats blazing! Hard to believe off of any pace.
13:06 is probably only 20 seconds slower than he and Kipketer and run right now in ideal conditions.

Bob Kennedy.... how about stepping up to the marathon my friend, usually doesn't come down to a kick there.

No, we need some more guys like Bob Kennedy who aren't afraid to mix it up with the Africans on the track. Not ONE non-African in the 5000.

Kennedy probably couldn't beat Bekele while Bob was running well - but I guarantee he would be sticking his nose in the lead pack until the end. The guy had the ego/guts to go head to head with anyone. One of my favorites. Bob is not a marathoner, though - too big, plus he never was a high miles guy.
