Allyson Felix new 200m HS record!

I just saw the results from today's 200m at Mt. Sac. Allyson Felix won in 22.51 with 1.3mps wind. T&FN lists the HS record at 22.58 by Marion Jones, so it looks like we have a new record holder! Congratulations to Allyson! This girl is FAST!

Yes, she ran 22.51 for 4th at the '92 Trials.

Allyson Felix is a refreshing talent. She is a generalist sprinter who can do the 100, 200, & 400. Her PBs are 11.40/22.51/52.26. According to news reports, she eventually plans to focus on the 400. She also wants to run at nationals, to qualify for World Outdoor Champs. Could she spoil the party again?

Because her 11.24w (& previous 11.29 at Arcadia) was wind-aided, I didn't count it as her 100m personal best.

Right. I wasn't meaning to correct you, but only to add some pertinent information which is suggestive of her abilities, which we agree are quite impressive. I wish she had run in the open 100 where Kelly White got 10.97!

Anyway, I am like "miler" not totally stupid about sprints, but close. My question is does it really make much of a difference in 100s to be in a "fast" heat? Seems like it is all out anyway. But maybe I am letting my ignorance shine here.

fast vs. slow heats in the 100 is solely a mental thing. If you run slower in the "slow" heat it's probably because you go into showtime mode 10 yards from thefinish and raise your arms and go for some face-time on ESPN instead of trying to--what was that W word? oh yah, win---. Oh yah, forgot, track doesn't get ESPN face time.
