When did I say that coaching and recruiting are opposites or mutually exclusive? I merely stated that I don't think recruiting should be a SUBSTITUTE for coaching. Perhaps I should have used the word "development" instead of coaching.

It's easier to look like a good coach by recruiting a 3:42 1500 runner who runs 3:44 under your tutelage than turning a 4:00 kid into a 3:50 runner.
