Job Title: HEAD TRACK AND FIELD COACH
(Regular, part-time position beginning in January and
ending in June annually)

SUMMARY: Oversee the direction of the varsity track and field programs at the NCAA Division II level. Responsible for
recruitment, scheduling, practice/meet preparation, budget management, fundraising and promotion. Assist the Director
in a leadership role in enhancing the internal and external visibility and recognition of the Michigan Tech Track & Field
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Plan, organize and administer the university's varsity track and field programs.
Direct the recruitment of student athletes on a local and regional level.
Develop and implement practice sessions and determine needs for individual and team improvement.
Evaluate own and opposition team capabilities to determine meet strategy and manage/prepare team for competition;
determine strategy during meets.
Enhance and promote the internal and external visibility and recognition of the university and team to alumni, and campus
and off campus groups.
Actively participate in fund raising activities.
Provide necessary resources to monitor and promote the academic success of student athletes.
Plan, develop and administer budgets and budget reports.
Represent and act on behalf of the university.
Administrative supervision is exercised over coaching staff, support staff and student assistants. Carries out
supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities
include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; and addressing
complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable
knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
Experience coaching track and field and/or cross country running.
Experience using personal computers and basic software packages.
Experience coaching at the collegiate level.
Athletic recruiting experience.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Superior communication, interpersonal, and public relations skills.
Superior organizational and administrative skills.
