Re: usatf champsGood question! Obviously, USATF will give him one of their mysterioius 'exemptions" if need be. There are several ways they work the rules to get him in I suspect. First, they could accept his NCAA marks last year, even though he was technically suspended at the national/international level at that point. Second, remember that if you have a medal at the World Indoor you get in, so they could say that the 60=100. And then there's also a rule, far as I know, that if you're in in one event you can also get a free pass to the "next" event so he could use the 60 to get into the 200.
Re: usatf champsUSATF changed the qualifying window, "In response to a number of questions from athletes and coaches, the beginning date of the qualifying period has been extended to May 1, 2002. This new date is over two months earlier than the previous date of July 5, 2002."
I know he has a 200 mark inside that window (19.86 at SECs) and am guessing he has a 100 mark inside it as well.
Re: usatf champsYeah he ran 10.08s for the 100m last year. And this year has run a PR of 10.05s against virtually no-competition withi the race.

Re: usatf champsDo you think that Gatlin will be ready to run at Nationals or do you thin that he will be hurting form the time off?
Re: usatf champsJustin Gatlin is in, he has qualified without a time in the 100m, and with his 19.86 in the 200m.
Re: usatf champsHe has not competed in a race in a month, but i am sure he is training and will be ready if he is not injured. he competed in only one indoor race, but dominated the usatf and world indoor. of course the field in stanford will be more competitive.
