Although not a DL event, there's a women's 1000 on the program that MIGHT provide a World Junior Record!!
The WJR is 2:35.4, held by 2 women, one from 1979, the other from 1984.
Ajee Wilson is a prime candidate to smash that mark!!

Morgan Uceny and Laura Weightman are also in the race.

I am glad this year was finally given a bit more space to this kind of events which are more interesting than the races we continue to see in the meetings (wouldn't be more interesting seeing Kiprop run a 1000 instead of a 1500 sometimes?) but it's a shame they are put outside of the main meeting program and are not going to be shown on the tv/live streamings.

As for Ajee Wilson, I doubt she is capable of running a 1000m that fast. The world leader, Kupina, has run 2.36 based on 1.59/4.08 times (800/1500) while Wilson, who is a more speed-based girl, has 54/1.58/4.23... in my opinion she lacks the endurance to clock a sub 2'35 time.

I'm glad too!
Would like some 2 mile races and a couple or more 10K's.

As for Wilson's chances to break the WJR, I think they're VERY good!!
She's run well all season, and has indicated she WILL be making the attempt.
I tweeted possible splits to both Wilson and her agent, Ray Flynn, and they both liked them.
The splits I offered were 59, 63 (2:02), then a 33 last 200!!

2013's best being only 2:36 is because it's rarely run, and the top runners haven't run it much, if at all.
You don't really need mile endurance for an extra 200 meters after an 800.
I predict.......barring the unforeseen.....she WILL break the record!!

Probably a better race for Martinez than Wilson, and that probably can be said about all of the 800/1500 runners vs either 800 specialists or ones that are fast 400 gals (think Roesler).

If that's the case, then why is there talk of Rudisha going for the 1000 WR??
He's not a 1500/mile guy!!
More the 400-800 type....now.
Anyway, we'll find out in less than an hour!! :D

Regarding Rudisha, in my opinion he couldn't challenge the WR. Kaki made many attemps to it (both outdoor and indoor) and failed all the times (he was more than 1 second and an half far from the record). Kaki is a bit slower than Rudisha (1.42.23) but has a 3.31.76 endurance... but he couldn't take down it.

We will discover whether Wilson can do it!

Wellllll......Wilson had her 1st bad race of the year!!
But she had a GREAT season.....definitely the best by a 19 year old!!

Uceny ran a PR of 2:37.61, moving to # 14 on the A-T US list.

The winning time of 2:35.43, while the fastest this year, still misses my Top 24 A-T Performers list by 2.66 seconds!!!

Last time I looked, Wilson was not the WR-holder in the 800. When you are well down the list, being on the wrong side of your strength is a big barrier to get over.

I initially thought it was Janeth Jepkosgei and my thought was "Wow look at her dialing back the years.

Who on earth is Nelly ? Never heard of her before.

Nelly is Janeth's little sister, and is (in)famous for one of the worst pacemaking abominations in rabbiting history! Here is a snippet from my post from the thread about the Rome DL 1500:

"That was possibly the worst example of pacemaking in the history of the "job". They said she was told to run 62, 64 (2:06), but she ran about a 28 first 200 and 58.56 at 400. Naturally, no one was anywhere near her, so she slowed way down, and they caught her at about 800 in 2:12, so by this time they are not only behind pace, but also running relatively slowly. Then, she didn't even get the Heeeeeeel out of the way, but impeded Simpson and a couple of other runners to boot. Where do they find these people? Is she related to Janeth Jepkosgei?"

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=50954&p=833484&hilit=Nelly+Jepkosgei#p833484

She was born 14 Jul 1991, and her PB is 2:00.19 for 800.

@Alan
I doubt Nelly is Janeth's sister. The name Jepkosgei is a girls name in Kenya. I think that Janeths family name is Busienei. Therefore if she were Janeths sister , the name they would share is Busienei.

Yeah, I think you're right. I had a distinct impression that I read somewhere about her being Janeth's sister. I can't remember where and my search has turned up nothing. So, I take it back, except the part about her horrible pacemaking.
