It will be very interesting (I wonder if they are going to show us some jumps or to make us watch only the track events like ever); this year Shkolina has been in a super form, at the WC she could have jumped at least 2.05 but the lack of challenge from the others didn't allow her. She jumps a lot better if pushed... Chicherova, even if this year she is not close to her best shape, can always jump 1.98/2.00 so it will be interesting to see what happens.

So Shkolina ends up (one assumes) undefeated w/ WC and DL titles. She's in line for a nice high placing in the AOY voting.

And she deserves it. Championship performer, Ice cold attitude and now tasted global gold. She will be difficult to beat in the coming season.

Then she will need to improve. This was a down year for the Women's HJ with only 3 jumpers over 2 meters. Shkolina was undefeated in the 6 meets she competed in. She beat a past her prime Chicherova and a Barrett in a seasonal decline. No Vlasic to speak of and no Friedrich. Shkolina only cleared 2m twice and equalled her 2.03 from 2012. That's the lowest for a world #1 since well back in the last century.

2005, 2000 and 2001 were this century last I recalled and Chicherova won with 2.03 in 2011. Bar two occasions

Regardless, Shkolina brings her A game to championships where she seems to have a nack for jumped her PB in recent years. Only Vlasic and Chicherova has jumped higher in global championships for more than half a decade. I rate Barrett highly but she is still new and not yet jumped over 2.03m in a global championships. I think the nature of her misses in the WC showed a bit of mental toughness as favourite must be developed. But she has a long career ahead and I don't doubt WR attempts in a few years. Fredrich has never jumped 2.03 in a championships and it's highly debatable if she will return to any sort of 2.00m quality given her injuries these past few years.

Of course we can wait and see. I don't think Chicherova is past her prime, she still had a solid season and lost the WCs being unusual technically poor over the bar, however she still clearly has the height in her legs from her misses. Vlasic of course is a wait and see. It must be concerning that her injury flared up prior to the championships.
