This one's a toughie.
With fingers crossed, I'll take Duncan over SAFP, with Tarmoh, Ahoure, and Jeter in a VERY tight battle for 3rd!

SAFP will take it over Duncan here and Moscow. The big bad Felix will take the whole thing in the end tho.

Of more interest is how far Jeter has come in her rehab. Will she be competitive? If healthy she'll be in the mix for second.

A guess on recent fitness and readiness... certainly not a prediction of what would happen if this was the WC final.

holy crap 22.24 for Ahoure. Jamal was right when he said maybe the 200 is Ahoure best race. Duncan looks like she is in very heavy training which makes me think the fast times will be showing up later in the season.

i dont think ahoure or any of the 100 meter sprinters doubling back from the 100 will be a threat come worlds in the 200. just too many rounds for them. i think alison felix made a good decision just to focus on the 200 this year.

I dont think the 100/200 double is as big a deal as people make it out to be if you are well conditioned. An inexperienced Shelly ran a 22.09 pb at the olympics last year. Carmelita and Ahoure also werent too far off of there personal bests either after running rounds of the 100. Now having to run rounds of 200 after rounds of 400 thats a different story which is why i give kudos to Sanya and Allyson for tackling that double.

The double does matter when the others at the top are not doubling. The surprise in this one is 22.26/-0.5 from Townsend who beats SAFP and almost took down a super start from Ahoure. As for SAFP, she was not a neophyte in the 200 last year; I thought she was too until someone pointed out a bit more history in her background.

By the way for me the 'video' was more like a sequence of bleary photos; did anyone else have that problem.

She was a neophyte in the sense of performing at a global championships but of course she had been running a decent amount of 200's throughout her career. As well Allyson ran alot of 400's before Deagu but having to put it together with the pressure on that level makes everything different than running one open race at a DL meet.

Agree with this, even looking back to the last decade or two, Ottey, Torrence, Privalova made this sort of double with success commonplace. Don't think it really is a big deal but I believe the athlete really has to focus on both events, ie. can't just work on speed and assume you'll show for the 200m and kill it. I think this had been VCB's issue lately as she was so intent on getting that 100m gold that she just neglected the speed endurance part and it showed badly.

The 200/400 double is killer...Allyson could only pull off a silver/bronze and Sanya has fared even worse. Makes Marie-Jose Perec's double gold in 1996 pretty amazing.

Tiffany Townsend's 22.26 has to be the biggest "news" out of this.
Ahoure and SAFP weren't surprises.......not really.
The questions of why Jeter didn't run has been answered---she ran the relay.
Duncan's deep in training mode......so maybe wasn't as sharp as she'll be in Moscow.

But Townsend??
An 0.22 improvement on her PR!
Wow!

Ahoure just SCREAMED the start and curve!!
That is a MAJOR step forward for Tiffany Townsend. Note the negative wind reading and very slow reaction time, too.

BTW, my ISP let me down big time today -- no internet service during the meet at all. I watched it on Universal Sports. Upside: with a DVR you can pause, go back and re-view, etc., also getting far enough behind the live stream to be able to fast-forward through the ads. OTOH, with streaming you get to see what's happening during the ads. My preference is to watch the streaming, then go back and watch the DVR'd TV version. My plan today was to watch it on Russian TV, but that was out the window, too.

Cheers,

Duncan did her best Spearmon imitation. She was out of the race after 10 meters.

Kim has been finding her feet since coming across to Europe and this is her best race. Her start wasn't great but in comparison to a 6.99 60m athlete in Ahoure, it's never going to be. She was led off the bend in Des Moines bt Felix, also a slower starter.

It will be interesting to see how it all pans out in Moscow. How much will she sharpen up? How much slower will the doublers Ahoure, SAFP and Okagbare be? What can Felix bring?

I would be willing to guess (bet?) that at 10m she was barely behind her 21.x from the Trials/USATF. To think that she is out of any 200 where she is still on her feet is probably a mistake. Wait a few more weeks and see if she recovers from multiple prior peaks followed by heavy training.

Of course in a few more weeks it's possible there's a different scenario but in this race she lost a large amount of ground coming off the turn and didn't have the extra gear to run the leaders down. My guess is long season and, your theory of heavy training is also plausible. I wasn't making a career assessment, it was a race assessment.
